Less than two months after Sons of Anarchy aired its Season 4 finale, FX has already ordered a sixth season of the biker drama, TVGuide.com has confirmed. The network renewed the show for a fifth season back in October.
The sixth-season renewal, which was first reported by The Hollywood Reporter, is part of a three-year overall deal between Sons creator Kurt Sutter and 20th Century Fox TV and FX Productions. That pact calls for him to also develop new series projects for both broadcast and cable.
Sons of Anarchy boss on Season 4 finale: Clay suffered a “fate worse than death”
According to THR, Sutter still envisions ending the show in seven seasons — maybe. “There’s a part of me that does see being able to tell this story in seven seasons, but there’s a part of me that doesn’t want to say, ‘That’s it,'” he said. “I almost feel like when you hang that kind of finality and put a period on something, there’s almost a backlash that happens with the fan base.”
The Season 4 finale left the SAMCRO motorcycle club in disarray: Jax (Charlie Hunnam) took over the club and decided not to kill Clay (Ron Perlman). (Get the scoop on Season 5 here.)

Maggie Siff was recently interviewed by DigitalSpy. In it, she discusses Tara’s journey through the fourth season of Sons of Anarchy and more, and also had to say this about working with Charlie.
What is Charlie Hunnam like to work alongside?
“He’s great. He’s such a hardworking actor. I love working with him because I feel like when we show up together we are going to find our way through. Even if we don’t know what we’re doing, if we have a problem with a scene or the writing. If I get confused or tired, I always know with Charlie we’ll find a way through. There’s something about being able to work with someone like that, which is so gratifying. It’s such a relief to have that sort of consistent experience. He’s so sweet and lovely as well.
“Also, he had a great camaraderie on this show with the guys. They are constantly taking the p*ss out of each other all day long. So I feel like when he comes over to my side of the fence and he gets to work with me, he gets to relax and show a different side of himself. I think he likes that.”
In the near future, a portal to another universe opens up five miles beneath the surface of the Pacific, leading to the emergence of myriad monstrosities that relentlessly assault such chaos-magnet metropolises as Los Angeles and Tokyo. To counter the threat, the military develops high-tech mechas to battle the creatures.
The movie looks set to be a homage to the Japanese kaiju genre of movies, most famously exemplified by the Godzilla series. In an interview with Wired, del Toro described the movie as a “very beautiful poem to giant monsters,” as well as prominently featuring “25-story-high robots beating the crap out of 25-story-high monsters.” He also stated that the film would deal with the political and geological ramifications of the sudden appearance of such creatures.
Filming on Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim has now been underway for over six weeks at Pinewood Toronto Studios, taking up five of the complex’s seven soundstages.
In an interview with io9, del Toro revealed that initial filming was for the Hong Kong-set complex where the mechas are maintained and will continue at the studio until April.
Pacific Rim will star Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, and del Toro stalwart Ron Pearlman, and is set to begin its rampage through cinema screens on May 10th 2013.
