Charlie Hunnam to Star Opposite Dakota Johnson in ‘Fifty Shades of Grey

Congratulations Charlie!

In a one-two punch for “Fifty Shades of Grey” news, Universal and Focus Features announced Monday that Charlie Hunnam will star opposite Dakota Johnson as the film adaptation’s male lead Christian Grey.

The book’s author, E.L. James, teased the news about Hunnam (TV’s “Sons of Anarchy”) only moments after the announcement of the Johnson casting.

The storyline will require Hunnam and Johnson — a former IMG model — to participate in plenty of heated sex scenes, though it’s unclear how explicit the film will be. It seems unlikely that the numerous playful S&M scenes depicted in the book could be depicted with an “R” rating, so it could end up as one of the highest-profile NC-17 pics yet.

“Fifty Shades of Grey” is being directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson (“Nowhere Boy”) and produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti, along with James. Kelly Marcel penned the script.

Focus will release the film Stateside Aug. 1, 2014. Universal is handling international distribution.

  1. Charlie is sooo damn good (and hot) in Sons of Anarchy, however when I saw Pacific Rim it somehow felt that he was still in the character of Jax Teller and having Ron Perlman in the movie greatly reminded me of SOA. I am a big fan but I am just not sure if he fits the character.. I am not a fan of 50 shades but it’ll be exciting how his acting would be, if he can justify the role of Christian Grey. I love you charlie! Haha!

  2. Wow! I never thought about Charlie for this role. Not that he wouldn’t be great, I just never thought he would even consider. This will be very interesting!

  3. I think I am one of the few people left on Earth who has not read 50 Shades and was not planning on watching the film until I found out CH is starring in it! Smart, funny, talented, gorgeous, fantastic body, and smoldering HOT – Perfect sums him up quite nicely. #TeamCharlie

  4. I started reading Fify Shades of Gray when she wasstill writing the first book as fan fictioI was also watching Charlie on SOA. There was a lot of backlash when Rob was cast as Edward. Now look at him. I’m positive once everyone sees how beautiful Charlie is, they will stop. I fully support Charlie in thus role. He has the talent needed to look fifty shades of —–. Go Charlie!! Love you.

  5. I have been a huge Charlie H fan for a few years now Sons being my favorite show and Jax being my favorite bad boy …Never read Fifty series until now when I found out he was playing the lead of Christian…Lets just say Im half into the 2nd book in 24 hours…well spent time of my weekend….Its a whole new ballgame when you can put the face (That face) to the character and can’t think of a better guy than Charlie H to do this role….Gonna be a very memorable big screen experience…Charlie will get the job done and done well….mouths will fall open ….while biting their lip….with a gasp of OH MY!!!!
